Shawn Nitz: Advocating For Myself And Others

The Self-Determined community lost Shawn Nitz, who passed away on June 11, 2017.

He is survived by Athena Nitz-Lightcap. His joy in life created family members and connection wherever he went. His closest family consists of Lorraine Kinsley and her children, Michael and Kelly.

Shawn’s life served as an example and inspiration to all those that were graced to have known him.

Emergency Preparedness Classes

In December, we gave an Emergency Preparedness Class to 35 individuals in Smithtown. 

In January, the Friedberg JCC in Oceanside joined us in hosting Emergency Preparedness to 20 individuals in Nassau. 

This was made possible through a generous Walmart Community Grant.

Puzzle Break

We Escaped!! Puzzle Break

Our first Puzzlebreak Escape Room  fundraiser was a great success! We had over thirty people attend and raised approximately $500, more than doubling our financial goal! Most importantly, this event reached our Nassau participants, businesses and community members! 

It was a fun and exciting challenge that exemplified the spirit of self-determination!
